Insectos en Español? Que fantástico!

According to the U.S. Census Bureau there are roughly 37 million speakers in the U.S. It is the second most spoken language in the world, after Chinese. Now that it’s “back to school” time, many students will be taking Spanish as a foreign language elective. One of the best ways to learn a language is immersion. Last year, we decided to challenge ourselves to create a video in Spanish.

We wrote our Lean on Me video in English and then we translated the script with the help of our Spanish teacher. We were really concerned that we might not convey our normal personalities, like we would be strange Spanish-speaking robots because we weren’t comfortable with the language. So we memorized the lines and practiced by speaking them conversationally to each other. It’s not perfect, but we found it to be a great way to gain confidence in speaking. Now we find ourselves relying on key phrases from the video whenever we meet a Spanish-speaking student! So here is our Spanish-speaking video, Apóyate en Mí. We’ve have students tell us that they practice their Spanish by watching this video on insect pollination!
